Literature – “Ler é uma Festa” (Reading is a Party)
Lucrecia Paco is a Mozambican international actress. Born and raised in colonial context, when cultural expressions were not authorized, and practices like speaking bantu languages, sing and dance traditional sounds were things that the Portuguese colonial masters didn’t accept. However, the natives used to find a way out to do it. In 1975, when Mozambique became free country, the culture was one of the channels that the government used to disseminate policies.
As such, around the 80s, numerous theater groups we formed within the neighborhoods. Tchova xita duma was one of them and Lucrecia Paco was part of it. In 1984, after participating in the documentary Maputo Mulher, she realized the importance of arts within society. Few years later, she joined Mutumbela Gogo, the theater group where she became professional and still remains there today as actress.
