Conversation with Portuguese writer Afonso Cruz with moderation of Ana Miranda (director of Art Institute in New York).
After having participated in the 26th Literature Course of Camões - Portuguese Cultural Center in Maputo in 2014, the writer Afonso Cruz returns to Maputo for a talk about his work and the role of literature today. The public will be invited to know, read and debate texts chosen by the writer Afonso Cruz.
Afonso Cruz born in July 1971 at Figueira da Foz. He attended the António Arroio School, the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon and the Higher Institute of Plastic Arts in Madeira. In 2008 he published his first romance, A Carne de Deus — Aventuras de Conrado Fortes e Lola Benites. In 2009, Enciclopédia da Estória Universal. In 2011, published Os Livros Que Devoraram o Meu Pai. In 2012, became the distinguished Portuguese actor for the Prize of the European Union for Literature by the book A Boneca de Kokoschka, and also published Jesus Cristo Bebia Cerveja, that was distinguished with the Time Out Prize—Book of the year and considered the best book according to the readers of Público newspaper. In 2016, he published his most recent romance Nem Todas as Baleias Voam.
Ana Miranda born in Torres Vedras in 1977. Started her career as an actress and producer. When she moved to New York in 2006, she worked as a journalist for the Portuguese television maintaining her connection with the artistic community in New York and evolving whilst still a producer and filmmaker. In 2011, Ana Ventura Miranda funded Arte Institute, an independent non-profit institute for the internationalization of art and contemporary Portuguese culture. Ana has been responsible for organizing diverse cultural events in the US, Portugal, Brazil, France, UK, Angola, Africa do Sul, Poland and Australia, including the NY Portuguese Short Film Festival. In 2015 received the D. Antónia Ferreira Prize and in 2017 the PALCUS Prize in the Leadership for the Arts category.
