Mozambique: ENI Open Day
Contemporary Dance – “Solo For Maria” and “My Gender Lives Here”
Two plays presented at the International Dance Symposium: "Solo para Maria" directed by Panaibra Canda and Maria Tembe and "Meu género Mora Aqui" directed and interpreted by Janeth Mulapha.
Solo for Maria (Solo Para Maria)
"Maria" is an actress, dancer
"Maria" is a girl
"Maria" is a Mother
"Maria" is the mother of Jesus
Yes, "Maria" is the name of a woman!
With this play Maria Tembe and Panaibra Canda created, from observation, the status of women in the world. How many women live in a woman's body?
My gender lives here (O Meu Gênero mora Aqui) by Janeth Mulapha
It is a challenge to sensuality and feminine bravado, from known musical rhythms. It is a play in which Janeth confronts what she is with what she sees and how others see her.
Is my gender in my breasts? In my curvy body, or in my hair? In my style, in my sensuality and in my delicacy? Is my gender in female bravery, in the day-to-day battle I face? Does my gender live in my name or my way of being calculating? Is my gender in the menstrual cycle with long breaks in the maternity leave? Where does my gender really live?
