Collective Exhibition ‘Ser Humano’ (‘Being Human’) @Camões Maputo
A visual arts exhibition by members of MUVART [Mozambique Contemporary Art Movement 9] entitled "Ser Humano" is now open to the public at Camões Portuguese Cultural Centre in Maputo.
In the manifesto written at the time of the collective's creation, MUVART celebrates artists' capacity for critical production and reflection on national and global socio cultural problems.
"Diving into the theme of “Being Human” is perhaps the same as scrutinising the game that results from the action of human intelligence and lack of intelligence with its ability to invent objects. It is the reaction of a virus that reveals itself as the architect of the adventurous culture in which human beings are shaped," the manifesto declares.
The exhibition, mounted on the occasion of MUVART's 20th anniversary, features works by ngela Ferreira, David Aguacheiro, Félix Mula, Gemuce, Gonçalo Mabunda, Jorge Dias, Luís Santos, Mudaulane, Sónia Sultuane and Thandi Pinto.
It is directed and coordinated by João Pignatelli, and curated by Gemuce and Jorge Dias, with the collaboration of Severino Ngoenha.
The texts are by Alda Costa and MUVART.
Entry is free and the exhibition will remain open until November 3, 2023.
This exhibition is also part of the general programme of the fourth Gala Festival, sponsored by the European Union Delegation in Mozambique and supported by Millennium BIM.
