1st Seminar – Restitution of Cultural Heritage to Mozambique
Date and Time: Friday, May 24 2019 at 10h00 am
Address: Centro Cultural Franco-Moçambicano, Av. Samora Machel no. 468, Maputo
About the event
As a response to the recently launched debate throughout Europe on the ongoing process of returning African art objects to their countries of origin, the Mozambican History Workshop, in collaboration with CCFM, organizes the first Seminar on Restitution of Cultural Heritage to Mozambique: history, reality and utopia. The proposal is to create a forum for reflection that introduces and exploits the meanings linked to the concept and policy of restitution in the national context. To this end, three rounds of debate will be held throughout the day bringing together a group of academics, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, journalists, museum leaders and civil society, as well as curators and artists, to evaluate this question in the light of their practices.
