Rimpex, UX and Salinas awarded best Mozambique SMEs 2016 Prize

The 5th edition of the 100 Best SME competition has come to an end in Maputo, with the event’s organisers and partners awarding those small and medium-sized companies that distinguished themselves from the rest during 2016.

The three big winners were Rimpex, Best SME of the Year; UX Information Technologies, SME innovation; and Salinas de Batanhe, for the way they have reinvented themselves to get closer to clients and ensure a space in the national market.

Representatives of the three companies expressed satisfaction with the recognition their work has garnered, saying that the prestige conferred by the awards would boost their credibility in the market. They expect clients will feel more captivated by the offers provided, since there is no doubt that winning brings with it a psychic force for both investors and collaborators.

“This is recognition for the workers who have been with us for a long time,” Salinas de Batanhe’s Father José said. He acknowledged that “being recognised at a difficult time like this is very important for our business”, and foresees a promising future for his company.

In the same line of reasoning, Guidione Machava of UX Information Technologies says that distinction in this issue of the Top 100 SMEs gives the company technology leader status.

But the gala evening was not just about the three winning companies. The event was also attended by the organisers, partners and the Minister of Industry and Commerce.

Challenging companies to invest more in the capacity to provide services, Minister Max Tonela revealed that the Government intends to end the export of wood in logs in the near future, creating more opportunities for business and employment. This decision, the minister said, could leverage small and medium-sized companies that know how to take advantage, as the processing of all species would happen in the country.

“This year the Government approved a new industrial strategy that will contribute to the increase of production in Mozambique and boost exports to the countries of the region and beyond. One of the measures adopted, which aims at the materialisation of the industrialisation policy, determines the end of the export of wood of all species in logs, which will allow the processing and value adding of the resource in Mozambique by companies established in Mozambique from 2017 on,” the minister said, suggesting that this is an opportunity for SMEs to invest more in industry and service delivery, opening a window onto another investment area.

Organisers Soico Group PCA, Daniel David, shared with partners and participants the beliefs of the institution that he directs with regard to 100 Best SMEs. “The Soico Group believes in the resilience of the country and all of us. And believing is not a utopia that we should have as a dream at night. It has to be something diurnal, with confidence that the country will move forward through adversity, he said, lauding the prize as an important tool in this regard.

Event partners such as the Order of Accountants and Auditors, IPEME, ITIS and Primavera Software, challenged the winning companies to capitalize on the opportunity to think about the priorities of the country, because only that way would the prize have been worthwhile.

Beyond Rimpex, UX Information Technologies and Salinas de Batanhe, several other companies were distinguished, including OLOGA Sistemas Informáticos, PME Exportação; Sombras Matsinhe, PME Imagem; Metalurgia de Chimoio, PME Resiliência; and SOTEL, PME Desenvolvimento Pessoal.

The 100 Best SME award was launched in 2012 and aims to promote the development of the Mozambican business community. This year’s motto was “Produce and compete efficiently”.
