Mozambique: Government sells or closes majority of state-owned enterprises
The government has instructed the Mozambique Airports Company to grant concessions for the management of aerodromes as a way of diversifying revenue.
The announcement was made by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Manuela Rebelo at the opening of state company Aeroportos de Moçambique’s 2015 report meeting which took place in Matola, Maputo province. The minister stresses that granting a concession to a private entity is not he same as privatising these aerodromes.
The aerodromes considered are: Nacala, Bilene, Lumbo, Angoche, Inhambane and Ponta do Ouro.
The measures announced by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications fall within the context of restructuring state companies in response to the current economic situation in the country.
Chairman of the ADM Board of Directors Emanuel Chaves said that the company is making every effort to ensure its investment does not represent a burden on the state, and that although 2015 was a difficult year, the company had managed to notably improve its performance.
Over the past six years, the company has invested about US$500 million in the construction and improvement of airport infrastructure.
The two-day Mozambique Airports national meeting has as its motto: Airports, Strategic Places To Develop Business.
