Izyshop: Introducing online shopping to Maputo residents

Izyshop is Mozambique´s first and only online supermarket, offering its customers the possibility of purchasing supermarket products online which they receive at their doorstep. The products range includes groceries; meat and seafood, fresh and vegetables; hygiene and cleaning products, health and beauty care, pet products, baby and children products, and beverages.

The company’s aim is to change the way people buy groceries in Mozambique, offering a lifestyle of convenience and uniqueness, trough a safe and reliable online platform, with products at a competitive price that customers can pay for online or upon delivery.

Izyshop was officially launched in August 2015. and has managed to grow its customer base to 1,000 users now since they’ve launched a website. People´s reaction has been amazing and the client base has been steadily growing in the last eight months, says CEO Titos Munhequete .

The award

Last year, Izyshop took part in the entrepreneurship competition launched by Total, aimed at selecting and award innovative startup companies in Mozambique. From more than 200 companies that have attended, Izyshop was chosen as the best startup of the year, due to it´s innovative character, being the first and only online supermarket, connecting local producers and farmers to consumer markets and changing the way people “go” to the supermarket.

“We believe that this was a great initiative in the sense that it promotes and rewards entrepreneurial and innovative endeavours in Mozambique and Africa in general,” says Munhequete.” We strongly believe that the most efficient way to develop this beautiful country is to promote and expand entrepreneurial initiatives which solve local problems and help generate employment in the process. The fact that the prize involves a series of training and coaching activities brings great value to the overall business in the sense that will help us improve our practices and offer better value to our customers”.

Izyshop’s founder and CEO adds that it was fantastic to get to know the other participants, their businesses and vision. “We´ve exchange great ideas on our business plans and our overall vision of the country, and how we can contribute with our endeavors to the development of the country. There were fantastic people and businesses involved and it was for Izyshop an enormous honor to have been chosen as the best one”.

As for teh future, Izyshops intends to continue focusing on improving the quality of its service and the company is currently increasing the product offering.

“Our vision is to change the way people buy, moving them from traditional brick-and-mortar to a safer and convenient online platform-Izyshop, and we will achieve that trough a continuous increase in product offering and expansion of our presence to the major urban areas around” adds the young entrepreneur.
