The Mozambican State, represented by the Investment Fund and the water supply (FIPAG) concluded, in 1999, the Leasing Contract for the exploration of the Water distribution service with the company Águas de Mozambique, SARL which was formed for this purpose. Initially, the corporate structure was the SAUR international, a French consortium who was then the senior partner, followed by Águas de Portugal (AdP) and MAZI that is an entity that integrates a set of Mozambican companies.
In 2002 the French investor withdrew from society, passing the AdP to the majority shareholder. However, being the 11th year of implementation of the Contract of Assignment, the 28 of December 2010, in public and solemn ceremony celebrated the Acquisition of shares of AdP-Águas de Portugal in AdeM, by FIPAG, passing this to be the senior partner. To give a stamp of authenticity in Mozambique, the company majority-owned by FIPAG assumed the name of Águas da Região de Maputo, SA.
