Mozambique| Just In: Four murdered in Matola this morning

Mozambican vegetable vendors in South Africa took on the role of the family for the funeral of António Mário Chire, the young Mozambican who was murdered in Johannesburg, the so-called City of Gold, on Saturday, April 7.
The young immigrant died in a fight over women in a restaurant, and was buried in Johannesburg on Saturday thanks to the generosity of the saleswomen who contributed with more than 14,000 rand (around US$1,150 ) for funeral expenses.
The deceased’s relatives in Mozambique have not yet been located. He is thought to have hailed from Beira, the capital of Sofala and Mozambique’s second largest city. The killer and his whereabouts are unknown.
Dressed in Mozambican capulana sarongs for Women’s Day, vegetable vendors sang and cried at Antonio’s last farewell, at the very place where he lost his life. Others went to the cemetery, and the crowd of Mozambican immigrants brought everything to a standstill on the corner of Kerk Street, the former terminal of iconic Mozambican carrier Pantera Azul.
A community leader said that those present were the family of the ill-fated youth. Indeed, Benedita Barata Henriques, herself an immigrant in whose house Chire stayed for two years

Many Mozambican immigrants in South Africa lose contacts with their families back home, creating difficulties in host communities and among their fellow countrymen.
