Mozambique| Just In: Four murdered in Matola this morning
Police in Mozambique announced yesterday that 33 people died last week as a result of 39 road accidents throughout the country, five more than in the same period last year.
“Unfortunately, Easter week saw an increase in the mortality rate on the roads,” General Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique spokesman Inácio Dina said.
A further 63 people were injured over Easter week, 30 seriously, in road accidents which caused considerable material damage.
The police inspected 34,749 vehicles, imposed 4,913 fines, and seized 392 cars, 385 driving licenses and 83 license plates.
Last week, 45 people were arrested for illegal driving and 17 motorists were arrested for attempting to bribe police officers, the PRM spokesman said.
