Members of Royal Swaziland Police have raided the Ministry of Home Affairs in the capital Mbabane and arrested immigration officials during an operation in which over 400 files were confiscated as investigations into the unlawful issuance of state documents to foreign nationals intensified.Principal investigating officer for the case Sizwe Mazibuko told APA that a senior immigration officer Thobile Magagula and Busi Dlamini, who is an assistant immigration officer, were arrested during the raid on Tuesday and charged with nine counts of corruption.
“The files were seized yesterday from Magagula’s office and were still under investigation,” the official said on Wednesday.
According to the official, the confiscated documents included visas, registry book and passports.
The immigration officials are alleged to have unlawfully issued passports and visa permits to nine Indian nationals.
Mazibuko said police action was in response to the frustration voiced out by parliamentarians over the high number of people of Asian origin who have taken over Swazi businesses, police have engaged on a massive raid and crackdown on illegal immigrants.
