The cabinet session also reviewed a report on the Southern African Development Community meeting held in Botswana capital Gaborone last week.
“The Council of Ministers considered the report of the Gaborone meeting, reflecting the organization’s overall budget of about US$78 million for fiscal year 2016,” Saide said, of which Mozambique contributes US$2 million, he added.
The government also discussed measures to mitigate the impact of the drought affecting countries in the region, and the urgency of finding more effective measures to combat poaching.
As a result of the El Nino phenomenon, Southern Africa is currently facing its worst drought in decades with southern and central regions of Mozambique particularly affected. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, hundreds of thousands of people across the region are in need of emergency food aid.
