The Swaziland National Swimming Association (SNSA) has sent its condolences to neighbouring country Mozambique after the demise of their national team coach Frederico Dos Santos.
The death of the Mozambique swimming national team coach saw them missing out in the SNSA National Championships held a fortnight ago at Sifundzani Primary School. SNSA President Berger Nxumalo said this was a major setback for both countries.
“After Mozambique swimmers failed to show up in our national championships, we learned with shock that their national team coach had died in a tragic accident. Mozambique is one of the countries that we are working close with in terms of development,” he said.
Nxumalo said they had sent an invitation to Mozambique inviting them to be part of the national championships but they couldn’t make.
He said they invited them to give competition to the locals but it was an unfortunate situation and they had to cancel the trip. Nxumalo said despite Mozambique not showing up, the championships were a great success as clubs came in numbers. He said swimmers displayed a much improved standard even though there was no record broken.
The clubs that showed up include Sharks, Splash, New Hope, Blue Whales and St Michael’s.
Meanwhile, Splash swimming club coach Xoli Mpanza said they were happy with their achievement in the championships. “Our swimmers did well and the young ones showed great potential. We are working closely with the Ubombo Primary School and it is unfortunate that soon we will be going to the winter break as there are no heated pools,” Mpanza said.
