Mozambique: Three killed in Mirate, Nairoto administrative post – local sources
An attack by a group of armed men of unknown origin left one person dead and several homes burned down in the village of Chitolo, Cabo Delgado province in northern Mozambique, on Monday night, state radio has reported.
Spokesman for the security force Inacio Dina says police have sent a team to the village to pursue inquiries.
The village is in the district of Mocímboa da Praia, where, in October of last year, an armed group apparently of Islamic inspiration killed two police officers and four other members of the security forces in the district capital.
Since then, sporadic conflicts have occurred in small villages located in the bush, in the vicinity of the town of Mocímboa da Praia.
The police spokesman said it was premature to attribute the latest occurrences in the region to the group that besieged the town of Mocímboa da Praia for two days in October.
