Mozambique greenlights four one-stop border posts with Malawi
State-run Mozambique Airlines LAM has grounded it’s planes due to an acute scarcity of jet fuel in the country, APA can report.”The shortage of fuel is also affecting the northern city of Pemba, and scheduled flights to that region will suffer restrictions in the transportation of passengers and cargo,” read the LAM media statement seen by APA on Friday.
According to local media reports, LAM’s problems are not confined to delays and poor passenger service only, but came after BP (British Petroleum) has written to the carrier stating that it will cut fuel supply to the airline company due to accumulated debts.
The suspension of fuel supply by BP has affected the entire LAM fleet, and was caused by the failure of LAM to pay BP a debt of $3 million. The airline has not been profitable since 1999.
