Volume of cargo transported through Mozambique CDN increases by 67%

The Northern Development Corridor (CDN) last year carried about 405,000 tons of miscellaneous cargo, against the 243,261 tons transported in 2016, an increase of 67 percent.

The increase is a result of the CDN’s responsiveness in terms of equipment availability and railway line quality, plus the commercial work and new business development efforts of the commercial sector of the company.

At present, the Northern Development Corridor has 732 wagons for the transport of various cargo such as fertiliser, fuel, wheat, sugar, tobacco and various other agricultural products.

The company’s target this year is 480,000 tons of cargo, and the commercial department has already closed contracts with several customers.

Last year, the CDN, concessionaire and operator of port infrastructure in the north of Mozambique, transported about 50,000 passengers in 627 trains on the Nampula-Cuamba, Cuamba- Entre Lagos and Cuamba-Lichinga rail lines.

The Northern Development Corridor is a public company incorporated and registered in Mozambique, whose objective is the integrated management, rehabilitation and commercial exploitation of the infrastructures of the Port of Nacala and the rail line network of northern Mozambique. ICDN is part of the Nacala Corridor Project, which covers the northern region of Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia.
