Bad weather in Nampula fells power poles and destroys homes

Rains and high winds in the early hours of Tuesday, January 16, tore more than thirty electric power poles in Namialo and Ilha de Moçambique, leaving the latter in the dark.
Dozens of precarious homes were also destroyed on the Ilha de Moçambique and in Monapo and Mossuril, and many boats were damaged.
People affected are being evacuated to temporary shelter in churches and schools.
Traffic on the Naguema-Mossuril road is also affected.
