Police in Nampula closed down a spirits factory on Saturday morning after finding it was counterfeiting “Erika” brand product.
The factory, in Nampula’s Namicopo neighbourhood, was supposed to be manufacturing Fruta brandy, but finding little demand for his own product, the owner hwould have allegedly turned to labelling it with Erika brand labels.
Nampula police said that it has been possible to close the factory thanks to an anonymous tip-off.
Interviewed on site, the wife of the factory owner denied the offence and said that it was the buyers who had falsified the product. Erika brandy is owned by a Portuguese citizen called Matias Ferreira.
