Three districts on the coast of Nampula province might be isolated from the rest of the province due to heavy rainfall in the north of the country in recent days.
The warning comes from the director general of the National Institute of Disaster Management (INGC), João Machatine, who doesn’t rule out the possibility that this situation might yet affect other regions in the province
“This region has been experiencing steady rainfall in the last few days, which has caused saturation of the soils and raised flows of water in the rivers. The combination of these two factors gives rise to floods, which is why we are heading for Zambezia and Nampula provinces, so that together we can outline a strategy of preparation and response before this phenomenon occurs,” director general of the National Institute of Disaster Management João Machatine said.
