EN1 Manhiça update: Traffic ban, alternative route in place during bridge repairs

The National Highway Administration (ANE) and the Mozambican Ports and Railways Company (CFM) yesterday announced a complete ban on vehicular traffic under the damaged railway bridge at the entrance to Manhiça village on National Road Number One (EN1) until February 5.

In a joint press release, the two entities explain that the ban is necessary for rehabilitation work on the Limpopo line railway bridge which crosses the EN1 there.

The necessary work consists of repairing damage to the bridge’s main beams resulting from vehicles exceeding the recommended dimensions attempting to pass under it. The latest incident involved a Lalgy truck carrying a large transformer, and occurred last Monday.

During the period of the ban, traffic will be diverted 500 metres in the south-north direction and 30 metres in the north-south direction, both diversions properly sign-posted and controlled by signalmen.

The ANE and CFM apologise for any inconvenience and call on road users for understanding and cooperation.
