Logger Isaias Rondinho was allegedly kidnapped on the morning of Saturday 12 March by Rapid Intervention Force personnel in the administrative post of Liquar in Nicoadala district, according to Diário da Zambézia.
So claims his son Tito, who told Diário da Zambézia that his father was seized by eight heavily armed men in a Mahindra vehicle when he went to a friend’s house to borrow a car battery.
The kidnapped man, who worked in Morrumbala, was a renowned Renamo guerilla in the 16-year civil war, and, given the current political situation, the victim’s son has no doubt that this was the motivation for the abduction.
Tito however says that his father no longer supported any party, but spent all his time working in the timber trade.
