The National Migration Service (Semani) forecasts that more than 724,000 travellers will cross Mozambique's borders during the festive season.
To be specific, Semani predicts 724,597 transits, against 658,725 thousand in the same period of the previous year.
To ensure service flexibility and reduce the waiting time at crossing points such as Ressano Garcia and Mavalane airport in Maputo, Kuchamano in Tete Province and Machipanda in Manica, Semani will open additional lanes and boost manpower and equipment.
The border at Ressano Garcia in Maputo Province normally registers the greatest traffic during the festive period, expecting this year some 500,000 travellers, against 300,000 last year, a rise of 67 percent.
South African labour recruiting company TEBA, has given notice of 24,000 thousand miners travelling home in 100 buses.
To facilitate matters, a checkpoint will be opened at Kilometre Seven on the South African side from 22 to 25 December, the peak for entry into the country, and the Mozambican side at Kilometre Four, from 2 to 4 January 2018.
All travellers on public buses, semi-collectives and vans will be processed at the same points, while the rest will be taken care of at the border itself.
