Nyusi continues government reshuffle – AIM report

Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Wednesday continued his government reshuffle, reappointing two of the ministers he had relieved of their earlier duties the previous day.
Jose Pacheco, who until Tuesday had been Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, is now Minister of Foreign Affairs, replacing Oldemiro Baloi.
Baloi had first served in government under President Joaquim Chissano. He was Deputy Minister of Cooperation from 1990 to 1994, and then Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism from 1994 to 1999. Chissano’s successor, Armando Guebuza, brought him back into office as Foreign Minister, a post he held from 2008 until Tuesday.
Pacheco is the longest serving member of the government. He was Deputy Minister of Agriculture under Chissano from 1995 to 1998, and governor of the northern province of Cabo Delgado from 1998 to 2005.
Guebuza brought him back to the central government, appointing him Minister of the Interior in 2005. He held this post until 2010, when he became Minister of Agriculture. Nyusi reappointed him to the post, renamed as Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, in January 2015.

The new agriculture minister is agronomist Higino Marrule, who has never held any previous government position.
Max Tonela, relieved of his duties as Minister of Industry and Trade on Tuesday, becomes the new Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy. He replaces Leticia Klemens, who was only appointed to the job in October 2016.
Tonela has relevant experience in that his previous posts include financial director of the publicly owned electricity company, EDM, and member of the Board of Directors of Hidroelectrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), the company that operates the Cahora Bassa dam on the Zambezi river.
Nyusi has not yet appointed a new Minister of Industry and Trade.
