The United States government on Thursday made available another 54 Peace Corps volunteer teachers, who will work in secondary schools in various parts of Mozambique.
The teachers are trained in secondary schools subjects such as English, mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry and information technology.
These teachers will teach in 46 high schools across all provinces of the country over a two-year period.
The present group of volunteers is the 29th, and the swearing-in ceremony, led by US ambassador Dean Pittman, took place yesterday in Maputo, the Mozambican capital.
“We guarantee that these new volunteers have the motivation and the skills they need to become exemplary teachers. After two years of service, most of the volunteers return to the United States, transformed by their experience in schools and their communities, and become informal representatives of their countries of service, in this case Mozambique,” Peace Corps director Sanjay Mathur said.
