The Business Confederation of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CE-CPLP) is to set up a common food standards certification body.
According to confederation president Salimo Abdula, the new organization will enhance “the important contribution of CPLP countries in processing domestic produce”, and is part of the socio-economic and business development plans of the community.
The future Institute is seen as key to certifying food products in the CPLP, and essential for the empowerment and development of enterprises and economies in CPLP countries, stressed the Mozambican entrepreneur.
In Portuguese, the Institute for Food Products Certification is called ‘Instituto de Certificação de Produtos Alimentares’ of the CE-CPLP (ICPA – CECPLP).
The CE-CPLP was founded in July 2004 with the aim of developing cooperation between representative structures of CPLP member countries so as to create the conditions for business development in the community.
The CPLP has eight member states: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique. Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor.
