Renamo yesterday presented its candidacy for the midterm election in the municipality of Nampula, scheduled for January 24, 2018, to the National Election Commission (CNE).
The formal registration was made by the party’s representative, André Magibire, who was accompanied by the director of the electoral office, Viana Magalhães. The documents formalising the candidacy were received by Rodrigues Timba, in the presence of other CNE officials.
By determination of the National Commission of Elections, the registration of political parties, coalitions of political parties and interested citizen groups takes place from 15 to 21 October.
The registration of parties and coalitions of political parties is held at the CNE headquarters in Maputo, while groups of citizens interested in running at local level do so at the Provincial Electoral Commission of Nampula.
Renamo was the first political party to register on the first day of the window stipulated by the CNE. Rodrigues Timba said that early registration would allow the National Election Commission time to assess the authenticity of the documentation submitted with the application.
