Swedish deputy minister of cooperation visits Mozambique

Sweden’s Deputy Minister of International Development and Cooperation, Ulrika Modéer, begins an official visit to Mozambique on Tuesday to consolidate and deepen the historic relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
A statement from the Swedish embassy in Maputo, which AIM had access to, indicates that the visit is to follow up on Swedish support in different areas of cooperation, with a focus on human rights, democracy – including transparency and accountability – gender, climate and environment.
The Swedish delegation will meet Foreign Affairs Ministers, Oldemiro Baloi, Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleiane, and Mineral Resources and Energy, Letícia Klemens.
“The Deputy Minister’s stay will be marked by various activities, such as meetings with representatives of Mozambican civil society, public institutions, academies and a working visit to the National Institute of Social Action in Matola, with the purpose of understanding the New Basic Social Security Strategy and the challenges of its implementation,” the statement reads.
Modéer will also meet representatives of the international community for discussions on support for development programmes in Mozambique.
On Wednesday, the Swedish deputy minister will give an open lecture at the Eduardo Mondlane University called ‘Democracy, Gender Equality and Transparency: The role and responsibility of higher education institutions’.
The Deputy Minister is accompanied by a delegation consisting of the Coordinator of the Deputy Minister’s office, the Head of the Department of Southern and Central Africa, the Mozambique Desk Officer at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Deputy Director General of the Swedish International Development Agency.
