The Mozambican government will shortly complete the redefinition of borders with Zambia, Tanzania and Swaziland, and begin the same operation with South Africa, the Mozambican Interior Ministry has announced.
The conclusion of the process follows the completion of the same exercise with Malawi, Joaquim Bule, spokesman of the XXVII Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Interior announced.
“Our borders are extensive and need to be quickly redefined. Due to their extent, we cannot guarantee 100 percent protection,” he said.
The delimitation of frontiers, he continued, would increase effectiveness in the fight against illegal immigration, through a better coordinated detachment of forces.
“Illegal immigration is a fact, and we are joining other countries in combating this phenomenon, where some people take advantage and get involved in activities that call national security into question,” Bule said.
