Hidden debts: PM announces reduction of Proindicus and MAM debts - AIM report
The ambassador of China in Mozambique yesterday considered the form of cooperation with Africa effective, based on support for sectoral projects, leaving open the possibility of direct aid to the Mozambican State Budget.
“Our cooperation with Africa is mainly for project financing. We do not yet have a form for direct contributions to the state budget of African countries,” Su Jian said.
The diplomat was responding to questions from journalists about whether China could directly support hte Mozambican State Budget in the face of the suspension in 2016 of aid from the group of countries and institutions that traditionally supported the state.
The Chinese ambassador to Maputo said that his country was willing to study the possibility of directly assisting the Mozambican state budget, but praised the traditional way in which cooperation with Mozambique has taken place.
“This is a matter that deserves study, but so far the main way is to fund projects,” he said.
“This form deserves much recognition from international organisations and international financial institutions because it is very practical, very effective and very productive,” Su Jian said.
International aid partners of the G14 group suspended aid after the discovery in April of debts guaranteed by the previous Mozambican government between 2013 and 2014.
