Rádio Moçambique reorts that nine councillors and an unspecified number of administrative heads in Nampula city were discharged yesterday by President of the Municipal Assembly Manuel Francisco Tocova, who has temporarily taken over the reins of the municipality.
The RM reports cites today’s edition of Notícias as claiming that, “in addition to these dismissals, Tocova, advised by his party, the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), is acting in other ways which are said to be illegal.”
Notícias, adds the same source, ” confirms that the replacement of employees loyal to late mayor Mahamudo Amurane by MDM members has been going on since Monday.”

“A source confirmed that at least two of the officials indicted for corruption and suspended by Amurane had been reinstated this week on Tocova’s orders. Tocova has also initiated an audit of the municipality accounts, carried out by MDM members and officials from the accounting sector of Beira municipality in Sofala,” RM reports.
According to the same source, Notícias also reports that “a group of citizens has addressed a petition to the provincial Attorney General reporting what they claim are illegalities being committed by the Mozambique Democratic Movement and Manuel Tocova.
