The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Leticia Klemens, is leaving Mozambique to participate in the 6th LNG Producer-Consumer Conference 2017 in Tokyo, Japan, from October 18 to 22.
This annual conference, set up in 2012, serves as a platform for increased cooperation between key producers and consumers in the LNG (liquid natural gas) market.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, the aim of the conference is to share experience and discuss the challenges of the LNG market between participants, including ministers, leaders of international organisations and other experts in the field.
Mozambique has recognised LNG production potential, and has now entered the final phase of the Rovuma Basin project, with preparations underway for the construction of gas production facilities and the transportation of gas to a processing and liquefaction plant and maritime export terminal.
During her stay in Japan, Minister Klemens will also review cooperation between the two countries in the mineral resources and energy sector, “where we have registered significant gains in training support staff in the sector through JICA and JOGMEC”.
After Japan, the minister travels to China at the invitation of the Chinese government, where she will review the ongoing cooperation between the two countries.
