The National Economic Activities Inspectorate (INAE) has closed four commercial establishments in the last two weeks, mainly in the catering sector.
They are Torre Catering Services, Taka Taka Take Away, Bela Faustino Social Centre and Bonsuino. In addition to displaying poor hygiene, some of these establishments were operating illegally.
INAE’s national director of education, culture and sport operations Ali Mussa said that the closures were the outcome of 1,042 inspections carried out over the last 15 days.
“We closed Torre Catering for operating illegally. It was licensed for one activity but had ended up doing another without a license. We also suspended the Bela Faustino Social Centre for engaging in illegal activities and for hygiene and cleanliness problems,” he said.
Mussa added that his main concern of institution was “the lack of cooperation by entrepreneurs, as these were not the first inspectors to visit them in order to ensure the cleanliness of their establishments”.
Mussa said that Bonsuino, closed for having meat unfit for human consumption, would also be held criminally liable, but that the fine to be levied had not yet been decided upon.
“It is a delicate situation, so we a need to complete the work we’ve started, and in the coming days we will release more complete information on what has been decided,” he said.
Regarding the sale of meals on roadsides, an activity that has been on the increase in the capital recently, Mussa said that the INAE, in coordination with the municipal authorities, was designing a strategy that would deliver long-term results.
“Within a reasonable period of time, we will all notice the decision taken by the INAE and other institutions involved,” he said.
