Mozambique: Protesters block N4 highway access to capital with fuel tanker
A group of individuals linked to the Somali movement Al Shabaab have exchanged gunfire with Republic of Mozambique Police in Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado province, Mozambican news website Ntatenda reports.
According to sources at the scene, the individuals invaded the police station and seized firearms. Two policemen were shot during the assault and are currently hospitalised.
Two security guards at Millenium Bim Bank were also killed in the incident, now assumed to be an attempted bank robbery.
The situation in the Mocimboa da Praia municipality remains tense.
