Mozambique determines to advance cooperation in various fields with China: president - Watch
The Mozambican government has sent about two thousand soldiers to the district of Gorongosa, in Sofala province, as part of a military operation to reach Mount Gorongosa, where it is assumed the Renamo president Afonso Dhlakama is currently residing, according to military sources cited by Canalmoz on Thursday, February 3.
According to Canalmoz’ sources, the troops have already arrived, and will be preparing for the assault, but Renamo sources, who confirm they are aware of the impending attack, claim that this may be just an operation by government forces to supply Renamo with more arms.
According to Canalmoz, Renamo has already posted men at strategic points in case of attack on mount Gorongosa.
Gaza, Inhambane, Sofala, Manica, Tete, Zambezia, Nampula and Niassa provinces are all in Renamo’s sights in the event of an attack on Gorongosa or in case of attempts to halt the political actions planned by the party in order to take power .
Canalmoz sources also maintain that, in Morrumbala, Zambezia province, Renamo men control the ground, and government troops only go there on patrol and will not overnight there as they did before the recent slew of attacks.
Police in Sofala confirmed an attack last week in Caia on two ‘Nagi Investimentos Ltd’ buses carrying military men and military equipment towards the centre/ north of the country. The attack caused serious injury to the vehicles’ occupants.
