The Defence Forces of Mozambique (FADM) on Saturday granted President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence and Security Forces (FDS), Filipe Nyusi, the Military Leadership Gold Medal, the highest distinction awarded to personalities who stand out in the national defence service.
At a ceremony held at headquarters in Maputo, former President Armando Guebuza and former Chief of General Staff Lagos Lidimo were also awarded the same medal. Nyusi was distinguished in recognition of his leadership during the exercise of the duties of minister of National Defence between 2009 and 2014.
The award ceremony formed part of the celebration of the 53rd anniversary of the national liberation struggle and FADM Day, which was marked yesterday. President Nyusi remarked in his acceptance speech that he intended to bestow the medal to reward outstanding services rendered to the nation and the military by the Defence Forces of Mozambique, who had, throughout their career, completed training exercises, gained knowledge, demonstrated high levels of performance and increased their competence.
