Maputo National Park hands over 20% of 2024 revenue to communities in buffer zone

A whale beached on Beira beach, Mozambique on Friday September 15 and died during the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to witnesses on the scene, local residents struggled in vain untill 02:00 on Saturday morning in an attempt to return the marine mammal to the ocean.
Witnesses on the scene report that rough seas and high winds hampered progress.
The whale died during the early hours of Saturday morning. According to Filipe Avillez Paixao, “let me make an update. Whale is dead and the police are protecting the animal from the population who wants food.”
According to a Facebook post by Gwen Buxton who was on the scene, locals did everything in their power to try and save the whale.
