Frelimo approves resolution supporting Nyusi’s re-election as party leader

Frelimo’s political committee yesterday approved a resolution supporting Filipe Nyusi’s re-election as party leader.

“The political commission agrees, unanimously and by acclaim, to present to the 11th Congress, from September 26 to October 1, in the city of Matola” the candidacy of Filipe Nyusi for the position of president of Frelimo, the resolution reads.

With just 15 days left before the party congress, the current president of Mozambique and leader of the ruling party is the sole candidate in the running.

Among other reason, the political commission supports Nyusi because it considers that he has been the promoter of “positive results recorded in the recovery process” of the Mozambican economy and in the “search for effective peace in the country”.

The party also notes that its “pride” in having the current leader as “helmsman” reflects the sentiment of the central and local Frelimo organs as well as its social organisations.
