Mozambican SME association wants to manage FACIM

Mozambique’s Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (APME) wants to run the country’s largest annual trade fair, and is responding to the government initiative to grant the venture to the private sector.

The Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Fair of Mozambique (FACIM) took place last week near Maputo.

Quoted by state media on Friday, APME president Inocêncio Paulino said that the organisation had the capacity to manage FACIM.

“We have every interest in taking on FACIM as a project of our private sector association. We have expressed our willingness, and we have the capacity to organise this kind of events,” he said.

Putting FACIM under private management could allow the enterprise to generate even greater gains for the country’s economy, he said.

Paulino noted that APME was represented by 42 of the 462 companies registered in this year’s edition of FACIM, remarking on the exhibition’s importance for establishing partnerships and internationalising Mozambican companies.

The most recent FACIM had encouraged partnerships among the SMEs of participating countries, and several cooperation protocols with the potential to internationalise Mozambican companies were in preparation.

The Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Exports (APIEX) announced during the latest edition of FACIM its intention of handing the management of the event over to a private entity, while maintaining ownership of the property in Marracuene where the event takes place.
