Mozambique: Monthly business volume up 4.6% in June compared to 2016 – INE

Mozambique’s monthly business volume increased by 4.6% in June this year compared to the same month in 2016, the Mozambican National Statistics Institute has revealed. The figure aggregates different sectors of economic activity in the country, a communiqué that Lusa has access to notes.
The INE announced a 10.6% increase in the general rate of pay in the country for the same period and a decrease of 1.1% in the general employment index.
The Mozambican statistics agency also has monthly variations recorded this year.
Compared to May 2017, the June business volume fell 4.8%, wages fell 1.5% and general employment grew 1.1%.
These figures appear in a context in which Mozambique is trying to recover from the peak of the economic and financial crisis in 2016, when inflation reached 25%.
The central bank has halted the devaluation of the metical, which has regained ground and stabilised. The Bank of Mozambique forecasts inflation of 14% this year.
