Prime minister enthusiastic at participation in FACIM

Mozambican Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario on Saturday expressed his satisfaction at the confidence which national and foreign investors continue to place in the country.

He judged this confidence on the basis of the number of Mozambican and foreign companies exhibiting at the current 53rd edition of the Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM), held at Marracuene, some 30 kilometres north of Maputo.

There are around 1,900 exhibitors at FACIM, of whom 1,600 are Mozambican companies and 250 foreign firms. 20 foreign countries had stalls – they included regular participants such as Portugal, South Africa, Italy and the United Kingdom, and newcomers such as Belarus.

Speaking at a ceremony where awards were granted to exhibitors regarded as the best in their respective fields, Rosario praised “the level of organization of the various spaces for business interchanges, where the exhibitors establish partnerships and swap experiences in technology and the development of human resources”.

On the penultimate day of the fair, the Prime Minister said he was convinced that both Mozambican and foreign exhibitors would know how to transform the potential that Mozambique possesses into business opportunities.

His optimism was shared by the general director of the Mozambican Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Exports, Lourenco Sambo.

“Everything indicates that this edition will be a success, taking into account the level of diversified participation of national and foreign exhibitors, and the great flow of business people visiting the fair”, he said.

At the awards ceremony, the southern province of Inhambane won the price for best provincial stall, with Tete and Manica coming second and third.

Among the foreign exhibitors, South Africa won the prize, with Germany and the United Kingdom as runners-up.

The prize for best exhibition by a public institution went to the Zambezi Valley Agency, followed by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and energy, and the Ministry of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries.
