At least 2,480 companies have registered to participate in the 53rd edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM), Mozambique’s largest longest-standing agricultural, commercial and industrial exhibition, scheduled to be held from August 28 to 3 September in Ricatla, Marracuene district.
According to information released yesterday by FACIM, the companies registered up until 7:00 p.m. yesterday are Mozambican, and the organisation believes that this number will rise in the 13 days still to go before the opening.
In terms of official representation, 26 countries are expected to participate, with Belarus this year’s newcomer.
Lourenço Sambo, director general of the Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Exports (APIEX), the event organiser, says that the objectives of the event remain the same as always, namely internationalising the national economy and showcasing its production and export potential.
Speaking at a press conference in Maputo for the launch of FACIM, Sambo said he considered the Maputo International Fair a forum for establishing partnerships and promoting business opportunities in various activity sectors.
“As has been its tradition as an annual, multi-sectoral fair, FACIM has the ability to join, in a single space, all economic sectors nationwide, and thus a suitable place for meetings between domestic and foreign businesspeople,” he said.
This year, the three thousand exhibitors will be housed in five permanent and six temporary pavilions. The Nachingweia, Matchedje, Gwaza Muthini and Chai pavilions will accommodate foreign countries and companies.
The Mozambique and Ricatla pavilions will host the national provinces and exhibitors. Kongwa is reserved for ministries and public institutions, while Tunduru will house exhibitors from the livestock and agricultural products and equipment sector.
FACIM is this year expecting about 86,000 visitors, against last year 93,000. Among other activities, Sambo highlighted Exporters’ Day, with awards for the largest exporters and investors, and Mozambique Day, for national and foreign exhibitors.
Thematic seminars, contact exchanges, and celebrations of participating countries and provinces are also planned.
