Road dead have become a daily reality in Mozambique, and the numbers prove it.
This year, in just seven weeks, 168 people have died in road accidents and another 295 injured, mostly pedestrians and public transport users.
Such is the gruesome data compiled by the newspaper O País, based on the weekly reports presented by the General Command of the Mozambican Police.
The deaths and injuries came in a total of 254 traffic accidents recorded since the start of the year. The situation led the National Institute of Land Transport to meet yesterday with public carriers and the police to seek solutions to the problem.
