The government will announce the winner of an international tender process for a system to produce identity documents and travel documents and visas in a public ceremony later this month.
Since October 2009, when the biometric system was introduced, Mozambican identity documents have been provided by SEMLEX, whose service contract has now come to an end.
The tender for the selection of a new provider was launched by the Ministry of the Interior last May. SEMLEX was also able to compete for the renewal of its contract, and all tenders submitted are accompanied by a provisional guarantee of 108 million meticais.
