Int’l certification beckons for three Mozambican airports

Mozambique’s Ministry of Transport and Communications says the country will this year conclude the process of certificating the international airports in Maputo, Beira and Nampula.This will be in compliance with international rules of the aviation industry a statement from the ministry on Sunday said.
The statement said certificating the international airports in Mozambique represents a guarantee to users and other stakeholders that the facilities have met safety standards established in their internal operations.
It said the certification also meant that the three airports have complied with other recommendations of international civil aviation organizations.
The aviation industry in Mozambique like in other African countries has been faulted over safety standards in the past.
News of the certifications came at the end of a meeting in Maputo between the Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Mesquita, and the managers of Empresa Aeroportos de Moçambique, (ADM), and the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority, the Civil Aviation Institute of Mozambique (IACM).
According to a statement from MTC, the meeting was convened by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Mesquita who wanted to be kept abreast with the certification process of Maputo, Beira and Nampula Airports.
In October last year, a specialized agency of the United Nations, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) launched the project for the certification of international airports in Africa.
