Maxixe temporary pier is not safe enough to moor the two vessels acquired by the state for the Inhambane Bay crossing, an expert from the National Roads Administration (ANE) has said.
After the destruction of the Maxixe bridge by Cyclone Dineo last February, the government spent 1.4 million meticais on the construction of a temporary boat mooring, but preliminary technical assessment concluded that the wood-pile infrastructure was not robust enough for the large Transmarítima vessels, and only out-board vessels will be allowed to moor there.

“The temporary pier was built in an emergency, and boats carrying ninety or more passengers will not be able to dock there,” José Muthepo, Inhambane provincial director of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources explained.
