The Ministry of Youth and Sports and Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) are co-hosting a conference on the management of sports facilities and infrastructure n Maputo today and tomorrow, with the participation of representatives from various sports, academic and professional institutions and private individuals interested in the subject.
The event comes as the country struggles with the dilapidation and abandonment of many sports facilities, both old and new, often for lack of maintenance funds and because of misuse by owners and users.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Alberto Nkutumula, opened the conference, which began with a speech by UEM Rector Orlando Quilambo. Speakers and debate moderators include engineers, architects, physical education and sports teachers as well as senior staff from the two institutions.

Today’s session will cover four topics: The management of sports facilities and infrastructure in Mozambique – challenges and prospects; The life cycle of a sports infrastructure; Planning of spaces for collective use – places for sports; and Economic challenges for the development of sustainable sports infrastructure.
