Tear gas, water cannon, tanks and light vehicles were on display when the police Rapid Intervention Unit and regular officers laid siege to Renamo headquarters in Maputo yet again on Tuesday morning.
The police contingent positioned itself near the corner of Avenues Filipe Samuel Magaia and Emilia Dausse during a visit by a central party brigade to assess activities in Maputo, and remained there for the duration of the meeting.
Members of Afonso Dhlakama’s party were surprised by the presence of the contingent as they gathered to reflect on party matters and discuss strategies
