David Cumbane, Commander of the National Public Rescue Service in Maputo City, quoted by AIM said that by the time the fire brigade arrived at the site it was around 2 a.m. and a part of the warehouse had already yielded.
Cumbane explained that the most important mission of firefighters, shortly after their arrival was to prevent the fire from reaching the supermarket, adding that it had been accompished that was reached.
“The store is intact, the warehouse has suffered a lot, and the operations are over, we are making the aftermath to complete this part and move on to the subsequent phase which is to determine the possible causes of the fire,” Cumbane said.
According to Cumbane, the fire broke out at a time when no one was working. Only one security services employee was in the premises and there is no human damage.
Contacted by AIM, the Matola Game Manager, Ivo Manjate, who was on the scene, declined to provide information on the case, claiming that the matter is still under investigation.
