INAE closes Kawena shop, two Maeva factories in Maputo province

The National Economic Activities Inspectorate (INAE) has closed the Kawena store in Avenida das Indústrias, Matola, Maputo province, for having expired products on its shelves.
Kawena supplies a variety of products to the families of miners in South Africa.
The closure was announced yesterday in Maputo by the National Inspector of Economic Activities, Rita Freitas, during a press briefing on the past fortnight’s activities.
“We have encountered serious problems at Kawena. We are working with them to see what we can do in relation to out-of-date and deteriorated products, to prevent them from affecting the health of miners’ family members,” Freitas explained.
In addition to Kawena, INAE also closed two MAEVA group factories in the city and province of Maputo, one manufacturing cooking oil and the other soap.
Freitas said that there were serious hygiene and cleanliness problems in the establishments in question, especially in the production areas. INAE also found anomalies in their licenses.
